MILKWEED, Jerry Spinelli

CHAPTERS 1-11

Making Connections

-We can see that in the begginning of the book th main character didn´t know his own name, age or the ethnic group  belonged to, this is clearly a sign of lack of education and parenthood.

- As the plot develops we see that the yellow stars and color were used to humilliate the jews, we think it is very curious how now we draw the stars on paper as if one day they weren´t a cause of suffering and a symbol of a non-pure race.

- We also find very interesting how innocent the protagonist, Misha, is. He thinks that men with long beards do not laugh, he doesn´t know that this men are jews who are sad because they are being humillated in front of everyone. We connect this innocence and long beared men with christmas. Santa Claus is the long beared man, but in this case he does laugh and the innocence is reflected in the little kids

- We also connect the Jackboots´ parade wih the parade that takes place in Manizales each year, in both parades everyone is either watching with awe or bored.
